The executives of Dell said on Tuesday that the market sales of the new ultrabook XPS 13 is much better than the expected. Dell intends to fight against Apple's popular notebook MacBook Air with its XPS 13.

XPS 13 will be on sale on February 28. Dell said that, being promoted by the strong demand of the consumers and large enterprises, the current sales of XPS 13 have exceeded more than twice of the Dell's internal expectations.

"XPS 13 has made our expectation be bolder," said Alison Gardner, Dell's director of product marketing, "Since we began shipping the XPS 13 to consumers, the shipments have exceeded our expectations."

Gardner also noted that half of the XPS 13 sales were in the market of enterprises. The price of XPS 13 starts at $ 999.

The revenue of Dell's enterprise business doubled in the past five years to six years and now accounts for 50% of the company's profits. But Gardner did not disclose the previous internal expected numbers of Dell, and she said that Dell has already seen the strong growth momentum of ultrabook sales.

As more and more consumers are attracted by the Apple's iPad, the MacBook Air and other mobile devices, Intel launched a concept ultrabook in order to reverse this trend. According to some analysts, since the ultrabook uses the solid-state hard drive and other expensive components, its high price will affect sales, forcing Intel to sacrifice profit margins on the processor to help PC manufacturers make profit.

From the beginning of 2013, Intel will launch the largest marketing to support the ultrabook program of PC manufacturers. Intel has launched the marketing campaign of "the new era of computers" in April this year, including the promotion of television, print advertising and social media.

With the rise of the Tablet PC and the power of features, it is gradually being used for multi-function business. From searching the Internet to graphics and video operations, notebook is facing an even greater threat due to being heavy. Dell is now expanding its revenue sources, planning to transit from PC maker to the large manufacturer of the data center equipment market and IT services. Dell plans to release the first consumer tablet PC later this year.
